I Ain't Afraid of No Hoax!*

*Which is to say there isn't a hoax that frightens me. The double negative is negated by the use of ain't which isn't a real word but implies that I am hip to the street lingo. Being hip to the street lingo gives me street cred for being able to provide commentary on urban legends and hoaxes.

American Democracy
Hoax Buster Junior Associate George M. has brought this hoax to the attention of the Hoax Buster, and I am chagrined to say I didn't catch this one earlier, much earlier.  A thorough investigation into that matter of American Democracy has proven, without a single doubt, that no such thing ever existed. This is possibly the biggest hoax ever contrived and I am sure the people who have perpetrated this fraud upon us, the hapless victims, are having a good laugh at our expense.   See a democracy requires the people to directly elect their government, but most of our government is controlled through appointed officials and people elected by an institution called the Electoral College.

All I can say in regards to this is good catch George M., you've earned your Junior Hoax Buster badge!

AOL - Time Warner
One of the biggest problems with the internet is it allows every Tom, Dick, and Larry to start all sorts of wild rumors that take the country by storm.  It has gotten to the point that Hoax Buster can barely keep up with all of the crazy talk.  Here is one from the files, regarding America Online and Time Warner.  As I said, I've been swamped with investigations so I thought I'd clear out some of the easy issues.  If you've been under a rock, then you don't know about this hoax.  Some jokers have spread the rumor that AOL bought out Time Warner.  I don't know how to put this politely, but this is simply nutso!  At no point in time would the U.S. government allow the largest internet provider team up with a mega-media creation/distribution corporation like Time Warner!  Imagine the implications!   It would be the most significant act of monopoly creation in the new century.  I don't even have to do a net search on this one, case closed, AOL and Time Warner have nothing to do with each other.

California Energy Crisis
Here is another example of a hoax going too far.   California, the fourth largest state in the country, has been experiencing rolling black outs and sky high energy prices.  This is supposedly due to an 'energy crisis' that has been caused because of inappropriate deregulation of the energy market in California.  This hoax took quite a bit of time to ferret out and required the assistance of Hoax Buster Junior Associates Margaret R. and Timothy E. who diligently dug up the dirt on this hoax.   Apparently their isn't any crisis what so ever. The cause isn't theinternet, which was responsible for the longest sustained growth in this country's history, as I inferred from the government.  If that were the case, then we'd see the government falling over itself to keep those engines of economic growth churning.  Obviously, if there were a crisis, the government would do something, not just talk about it.  When a state suffers a flood, an earthquake, a fire, or any sort of crisis, the federal government is always there with a helping hand.  That is why we pay taxes.

The reason for the blackouts has been tied to an effort to increase the population of California.  It is common knowledge that people have more sex during blackouts than at any other time.

Under Investigation
Hoax Buster is still investigating bipartisanship and human cloning. Remember, if you want to become a Hoax Buster Junior Associate, send me an email.

If you have a suspicion something isn't quite right, that there is a lie and a fraud on the loose, who are you going to call? Hoax Buster!
