11/30/2001 Lucidity
I rarely have kick-ass dreams, which is probably why Lucid Dreaming techniques rarely work. Last night, though, was an exception. I dreamed I was part of a massive live action video game. I was part of a team that had to explore a dungeon. I entered the entrance, which leads you to the second level. I got spooked by something and ran up to the first level which was filled with ghoulish monsters. Even more freaked, I ran to the second level back to the entrance which would let me out to where I started. As I opened that door, there were even more monsters than on level one - and they started to chase me. The interesting point was I knew it was a game and that this is the way the game was played - or at least one of the options. I could have selected to go into level one first and the game would have been more investigatory with a lot of talking with the monsters there, or go to level two to activate the Shoot 'Em Up part of the game. The monsters of level one and the starting point then begin to chase. Being much faster I am able to run down several levels. That is how the monsters get distributed through the dungeon, they are searching for me, so some look on one level, some on another. The deeper I go, the longer I will have before the monsters reach me, but only the strongest monsters go to the lower levels. I rush through a door, round a corner and see that I am on a fire level. Trails of a flammable liquid leak towards open pits of flame, which then create walls of fire. I have to run through a maze of fire or jump over the pools of liquid before they erupt. I sense the monsters aren't far behind me but I see a group of people milling about. I walk over to them and think to myself, hey, I wonder how interactive this game is. I then grab a woman close by and kiss her. She responds positively. That is when I realized it wasn't a game I was in, I was dreaming (a woman responding positively to me was a dream sign? *sigh* Let's not analyze that, shall we?) I never became lucid enough to alter my surroundings, but I was able to interact with the group of people. The monsters never showed up and the obstacles became meaningless.
