8/7/2002 Zine-tastic
It's a kooky idea alright. But it's so kooky it might just work! That idea is for a zine. Not an e-zine, which requires frequent updates to keep the 5 people who read it entertained, I'm talking a print zine. That kind of thing that you can make once and keep selling for 10 years.I've already got the name: Bachelor Chow. The content, well, that is always the hard part. I was thinking about putting in one or two DIY projects, cartoons, very short stories. Bathroom reading kind of stuff. Nothing really groundbreaking, maybe rehashed articles from stuff I've posted to Boufdot. Do some rinky-dink cartoons, staying away from the scatalogical humor. I don't know, it really can have anything in it. Fiction would have to be short and pulp/noir style. Essentially, as the name implies, this would have to be something a bachelor (a non-wealthy architect in the city bachelor) would read. So instead of articles on the best wine to have with olive-stuffed manicotti, it would be which beer goes with ramon noodles. Okay, not necessarily that low class. The nifty part about doing a zine like this is really, it can be done just once, several copies made and sold via mail. I'd have to get a po box though, but I was considering doing that for other ventures anyway. I'll have to see how much material I can pull together, see what kind of cartoons I can draw, see what friends I can con into contributing stuff for it and go from there.
