5/14/2002 Shopping/AotC
As other sources of revenue dry up, I'm left grasping at straws to bring in enough money to cover the cost of the Stygian Labyrinth, which means becoming an Amazon Associate and hoping that that hundred plus unique visitors who come to my site might have an interest in buying books and stuff. It isn't like the site is going to shut down without some revenue, I'm not to that point yet, but I do have a belief it should be self sufficient. Self sufficiency means that I need to pull in roughly $35 a month, not a fortune by a long shot. I have enough traffic now to sign up with a ad service, but I've read too many horror stories about how they screw people over. I notice Something Awful and Brunching Shuttlecocks both did away with their services. Something Awful is trying to 'roll their own'. I had a similar idea, though I couldn't begin to charge what they charge. It would be best if I can just sell stuff. The whole ad thing is too 'soft' for my taste. I like products, stuff, services. Tangible items that get exchanged for cold hard cash. Selling page views is a bit, I dunno, wimpy I guess. Well, it is true, no theater in Chicago is playing AotC opening weekend except for a few out of the way places. McClurg Court will play it, but everyone goes there because it has THX sound, and I believe it got the equipment for the digital movie. I'm still hoping though that my resources are just fucked and it will open in the normal places this weekend. I may take Monday off to see it, or beg-borrow-steal to see it Sunday.
