Thirsty: A film by Jeff Frey What hell hath one unleashed? Blood Thirsty, a modern L.A. Gothic film. The box cover sets the viewer up for a lesbian vampire sex flick, which is truly unfair to what the writer was trying to establish in this movie. But I won't chide the copywriter too much as when one looks at the director, producer, and actors a particular image cannot be escaped. The lead, Monique Parent, who plays Whitney the sultry blood fetishist, is best known for her starring in movies like Dark Secrets, Play Time, Club Wildside, The Pornographer, and other soft core porn. Leslie Danon plays Celia, a cute innocent roommate who becomes the new supplier of Whitney's blood. Leslie Danon has stared in many b-grade flicks, starred in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, the video game, and the always memorable "Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters From Beverly Hills". Before going on, I also want to point out the credentials of a few others. Jeff Frey (AKA Fabian Lloyd) the director's career has developed such movies as Bikini Hotel, and Death Run. The Producer, Gary Bryman has produced the up and coming George Lucas in Love, Peep Show, and Finding Interest. The second roommate who is the one doing the narration is Julie Strain. She has starred in Bikini Hotel, Lingerie Kickboxer, and Witchcraft IV: Virgin Heart. Of course, Julie Strain is better recalled as the wife of Kevin Eastman, the creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. What we can see developing is although the cast and crew were essentially second rate at best, there is an undercurrent of creativity. Thus the copywriters automatically assumed Blood Thirsty was another soft core erotic flick. It does have its erotic side, but the fact the sex scenes are lit in obscure fashion, clearly tells us that the sex is a side issue to the story. This low budget movie deals not with vampirism but with blood drinking, a distinction that is necessary to keep us from comparing this movie to The Hunger. Whitney needs to drink blood. And after she drinks blood, she becomes aroused and goes and has sex with her male friend. Simplistic, but we start off seeing Whitney as a parasite. She uses her roommates. Yet, as the movie continues we can see it is struggling to demonstrate the levels of 'evil' in society. Is it better to take blood when it is freely given or to steal objects from someone who trusts you? Whitney treats Celia very well, giving her presents and allowing her to live virtually rent free. Yet Celia begins to steal from Whitney, justifying it by the fact that Whitney is drinking her blood. Whitney's male friend is upset by the continued blood drinking and tries to put a stop to it. Eventually, the roles of dominance are reversed with Whitney succumbing to the demands of Celia. The movie ends with another roommate (Julia Strain) renting a room in the house with Celia and Whitney, soon to become the next donor for their blood thirst. Is this a great film? No. Compared to other fetish flicks like Kissed, Crash, 8mm and Sex, Lies and Videotape this barely passes the muster. But as an attempt to create a blood fetish film, this was an amazing try and to all blood drinkers, a lot of Whitney's reactions ring very true.
